Liposuction Body

The removal of fat

Who doesn`t know them? Unsightly fat pads that do not disappear despite physical exercise and healthy diet. After the age of 20, the number of fat cells in the body remains constant. Only the filling level of the fat vacuoles in the fat cells changes with weight gain or loss. There are areas of the body (so-called `critical areas`) where the fat cells have a hereditary predisposition to fill and fail to empty even after significant weight loss. There are many causes for excessive accumulation of fat. Persistent bad diet, little or no physical activity, genetic predisposition, pregnancy, or age-related changes in metabolism or hormonal status can play a role.

According to recent studies, liposuction is one of the most common beauty operations worldwide. There are two reasons for this. On the one hand, experts have developed the liposuction procedure extensively in the last couple of years. We have the possibility to individualise the treatment for patients with various clinical situations and variously pronounced fat deposits (microneedles). The second factor is the male. The number of males who undergo liposuction on the chin or breast is driving up the total number.

Liposuction arms

These patients wear usually tops with long sleeves and wish a decrease of the upper-arm diameter. The fat tissue, which accumulates especially on the posterior part of the upper arm, can be effectively removed by liposuction. The maximum amount of fat extracted in one session of liposuction per upper arm in our patients in the last 15 years has been one litre per arm! A very natural, slim silhouette can be created with fine liposuction needles and extraction of fat tissue by layers. Our patients wear a compressive dressing for 2 to at most 3 weeks. The skin retracts well as long as the amount of extracted fat is not excessive. We will explain to you during the consultation how much fat we can extract from your upper arm in order to achieve a good result.

Liposuction of the abdomen

A flat, toned abdomen is the desire of many, but few have it. Frequently the accumulation of fat in the abdomen is caused by genetic or hormonal factors. Women are more prone to store fat in this area of the body. The most common indications for liposuction in women are `saddlebags`, `love handles`, the pregnancy abdomen, or cellulite. Men suffer from the so-called `beer belly` or ’spare tyre`, that do not go away despite physical exercise. Further information on the topic aesthetic surgery for the man is available under the menu option Operations.

The procedure:

During the procedure you will be monitored by an anaesthesia specialist. The operation is carried out under analgosedation, also known as sedation, so you will feel no pain. After the operation a special tight pair of trousers or corset must be worn in order to achieve the cosmetically desired effect. Together with physical therapists, we have developed measures to optimise the results for you. These and other aspects will be discussed with you during your consultation. The reserve fat cells – and thus the problem zones – can be permanently removed with liposuction. We target the extraction to the fat pads which bother you most. We use the time-tested and safe tumescent technique.

Cost of liposuction

The liposuction is a so-called beauty operation and in most cases is not covered by health insurers. The total cost of your liposuction will depend on the method, size of the body part to be treated, or the amount of the fat to be extracted. Dr Berkei will evaluate you and discuss with you during your consultation how to reconcile your desires with what is medically feasible. We will then generate an individual cost estimate for you. In most cases the cost ranges between 2,000-€5,500. You can find further information on cost and its components in the menu option Costs.
